— What is IHOP-KC —

.

“The Church today needs to be mobilized with continual prayer and fasting to release the harvest of souls waiting to be garnered from among the nations. Mike Bickle’s reliable ministry at his missions base in Kansas City is helping to answer a great need in this hour.”

—Jack W. Hayford
The Church On The Way

On September 19. 1999, a prayer meeting began which continues to this day, from dawn to dusk and though the watches of the night, prayer and worship continues twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. IHOP–KC is a ministry of “worship with intercession” led by 25 different worship teams comprised primarily of young adults

The Missions Base is centered around the prayer room, all of the multiple departments, ministries and programs all stream from a core commitment to remaining in the place of prayer. IHOPU is the banner-name

for IHOP’s schools (FSM, FMA) and internships (Fire in the Night, Onething), while the Joseph Company addresses marketplace Christianity, Forerunner Evangelism overseas outreach and the Children’s Equipping Center trains children and Children Leaders.

Lead by Director Mike Bickle, the House of Prayer facilitates many guests each year, hosting national conferences, workshops, and summits. Around 1,500 people (staff members, students, interns, musicians, intercessors and worship leaders) serve IHOP full or part-time, investing 25 to 50 hours/week in the prayer room, classroom and ministry outreaches.

The prayer room is the heartbeat—the essence and the origin—of all that goes on at the International House of Prayer. May the fire never go out!

“There is probably nothing more radical than real persons of prayer because they are beholden to no ideology or economic system, but only to God. Both Church and State are threatened by true mystics. They can’t be bought off because their rewards are elsewhere.”

— Dorothy Day; Catholic Worker Movement

28Aug09_0109bMy primary occupation and calling is being an intercessor. Through prayer the saints partner with God’s plans and purposes on the earth. I serve At the International House of Prayer (IHOP) in Kansas City on the Nightwatch, standing in the place of prayer between midnight and six am. The NightWatch completes the reality of Night and Day prayer and is a wilderness for forerunners (Matthew 25:6; Isaiah 40:3). The Holy Spirit is raising up a generation of forerunners, like John the Baptist, all across the earth to go ahead and prepare the globe for an unprecedented and historic release of divine activity.

The night is particularly filled with all sorts of unfruitful deeds of darkness; our cities are filled with murder, sorcery, theft and immorality (Revelation 9:21). We want the night to belong to the Lord. The basic principle of the wilderness life is the embracing of weakness in exchange for divine strength. Divine strength is that which sustains the yearning and the longings of the heart. I believe that as I embrace weakness, through, prayer, fasting and raising my own support, it forms in me something that makes me unshakable to the powers of this world and creates in me the compassion and grace needed to be a true minister of the Gospel in a uncertain, trying and apocalyptic era.

Behold, bless the LORD,
All you servants of the LORD,
Who by night stand in the house of the LORD!
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the LORD.
The LORD who made heaven and earth
Bless you from Zion!

We are living in exciting yet sobering times. I am convinced that the final days before Jesus’ return to earth are upon us…. In these days, business as usual is not an option for believers. Traditional paradigms and structures will neither contain the power that the Lord wants to release on His Church, nor withstand the assault of darkness as Satan rages against God’s people in increasing measure. The Lord is raising up preparation ministries, forerunners who will prepare the Bride of Christ to overcome in the midst of the last great global crisis.

- Allen Hood
President of IHOPU

Functioning under the banner of IHOP-U, the Forerunner School of Ministry (FSM) is a full-time Bible school serving the International House of Prayer Missions Base in Kansas City. By setting theological education in the context of night and day prayer, we are humbly seeking to redefine training in the Western world and answer the crisis of our day.

Believing that — as “night unto night reveals knowledge” — there is revelation of the Lord to be gained from standing in the place of prayer during the night, NightWatch FSM exists to train those who complete their prayer room hours from midnight to 6 AM.

Believing that, as we gaze upon the Lord in worship while at the same time training the mind in study of Theology and ministry, a unique dynamic will develop, FSM seeks to train passionate lovesick worshipers who are also skilled students of the Word.

FSM will equip me as an intercessory missionary and preparing me for future ministry. Believing the combination of worship and prayer with in-depth study will best prepare me for my calling, I have set myself to search out the mysteries of God through Biblical Study while gazing upon the beauty of God in the place of prayer.

— What I Do —

I spend 15 hours a week in the classroom, and 30 hours a week in the Prayer Room, in Prayer, meditation, Bible reading and study. the rest of my time i spend on homework and other small groups, ministry and simply living life. I am building up a life with God and establishing myself in his presence with prayer and fasting. It is something that i am called to as being a forerunner in this generation, that i sit before the Lord and go ahead, preparing the way for his Kingdom. this is really what I want to do for the rest of my life. That does not mean I always love the prayer room, often it feels like a desert, but i know that God “rewards those who seek him.” So i wait for the Lord in the place of Prayer.

    Hey Kendall!
I am an intercessory missionary at the house of prayer here in Roseville California, and I am also on the Nightwatch.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that you encourage me. Thanks especially for the last couple “40 Day Fast” posts, they encouraged me a lot.
    In Him,
    Josiah
